A fascinating breed of cats with an interesting history.
In 1961, Jean Mill of California made the first known deliberate cross of an Asian leopard cat with a domestic cat (a black California tomcat). They gave birth to a kitten, who was named Kin-kin. Unfortunately, Kin-kin soon died.
Jane Mill continued her breeding work in the 1980s. At that time, in the USA, at Loma Linda University, research was carried out on the feline leukemia virus, and scientists crossed domestic cats with wild Bengal cats (Asian leopard cats).
Bengal cat was accepted as a new breed by The International Cat Association in 1986.
Now let’s look at their features.
They like water. Actually, they are good swimmers. You will enjoy watching them swimming – it’s really funny. Thus, bathing your cat won’t ever be an issue for you!
They are very sociable and friendly. So, they get along well with their owner’s family members and even with their guests.
These cats generally have a good appetite. However, they remain slim and graceful even if they eat a lot.
They are extremely active. Don’t forget that this is a hybrid of a domestic and wild cat! So, they need a lot of attention, because they like playing with their owners. A Bengal cat is a good choice for active people.
Bengals get attached to people easily. They really love their owners. You and your kids will have a great friend in a Bengal cat.
All in all, Bengal cats require a great deal of attention, but this is a tiny price in exchange for their love and tenderness.
